More About Konstan Möljä
Konstan Möljä is an institution in the Helsinki food scene, serving traditional Finnish food for over 40 years!
History of Konstan Möljä
The name of the restaurant translates to Konsta’s Pier.
Konsta was a fisherman in old Karelia.
A long time ago, he would sail out from the harbor to cast his nets into the coastal waters of old Vyborg, a castle city which has stood upon the shores of beautiful Karelia for more than 600 years.
He would return from his fishing trips with a boat full of bountiful harvest, fresh from the cold Karelian seas. Konsta would dock his boat alongside möljä, a harbor pier.
For almost 40 years, Konstan Möljä has served guests from near and far, offering traditional Finnish food and authentic Karelian memories.
The Decorations & Atmosphere
Konstan Möljä is decorated in coastal Karelian style.
The walls are decorated with memorabilia, photographs, fishing nets and paintings of the refugees from Karelia. This is a unique opportunity to experience nostalgic old-time Finland in the middle of modern Helsinki!

The interior of the restaurant was designed by artist and film director Seppo Huunonen, and it is largely in its original form from 40 years ago.
Konstan Möljä’s interior exudes an authentic Karelian spirit and life in the archipelago outside Vyborg. Huunonen himself was born in Vyborg and Konsta was his grandfather.
He wanted to bring the history and culture of his home region to Helsinki and create an authentic coastal Karelian port in Konstan Möljä.
Uuras was the outer port of the city of Vyborg and was once the largest timber port in the Nordic countries. It was lost in the war to the Soviet Union. While the Uuras harbor was a lively international meeting place, the pier – MÖLJÄ – was the center of life.
