Story Of GTC Café

GTC Café was founded by a game developer who initially relocated to Helsinki for his game project, Vinar.

However, destiny had a different game in mind and an advertisement on a Finnish television network caught changed the course of events.

The ad was a short animation about Geppetto, the father of Pinocchio, depicting his deep sadness and isolation after Pinocchio leaves. The ad, created by the Red Cross, urged people to help foster community connections.

This message struck a chord. As they delved deeper, they discovered that more than half of Helsinki’s adult population lives alone, often with limited opportunities for meaningful social interaction. They began to reflect on how they could contribute to building a more connected community.

From Game Developer To Community Developer

As game developers, they recognized that while video games provide entertainment, they often lack the personal, face-to-face connections that traditional games and shared activities foster.

This realization led to the idea of GTC Café—a welcoming space where people of all ages could gather, play, create, and form meaningful connections through art, culture, and games.
