Kallio Second Hand is a dream come true for a girl from Rovaniemi.

When the owner was a child, she knew one day she would have her own shop. Her childhood family spent their holidays traveling in a van across the country, stopping at every flea market that they spotted.

On those travels she fell in love with finding treasures, old and new, and learned a lot about Finnish designers and collectibles. The idea of her own second-hand shop was already evolving.

History Of Kallio Second Hand

The idea of owning their own store had been brewing in the heads of a woman from Rovaniemi since she was a child!

A Design Store In Kallio

The dream began to come true when a suitable space for the store was found by chance in Kallio, a laid-back neighborhood in Helsinki.

At that point, Kallio seemed like the only right place for a relaxed design shop, as the bohemian atmosphere of the area was welcoming.

“Kallion oma designkauppa” – Kallio’s Personal Design Store, opened in the summer of 2007.

The starting point was a passion for Finnish design, Kallio and rock-style design. For five years, until August 2012, the store sold fun, distinctive interior design products, clothes, accessories and books.

In addition to their own products, the selection included products from more than sixty designers from all over Finland! All the products were handmade by young Finnish designers. The store’s feel was perfect for the products, bohemianly modern. 🙂

Wind Of Change

At the beginning of 2013, new winds started blowing in the store.

Following a summer break, she decided to shift the focus from design toward second-hand items. The assortment was nearly entirely refreshed, as the emphasis on product selection transitioned to curated second-hand items.

A new direction required a new name and “Kallion oma designkauppa” became “Grape Station second hand” in the current premises of Hämeentie.

Towards Kallio Second Hand

Finally, in the fall of 2014, it was time to take the change of the shop even further and completely renew the name. “Grape Station second hand” naturally became ‘Kallio second hand’, after all, we had been enjoying these corners for almost 20 years!
