Tea Selection At The Old Tea Shop
The incredible variety of tea, blends, and matcha deserves more space but we think that the best experience will happen at the Old Tea Shop.
Tea selection may vary depending on the time of year and availability.
Blends
You can season tea leaves in various ways to create a diverse range of flavors.
While most tea mixes flavor their blends with fruits or flowers, some use a natural flavor that is not organic, even though they grow the leaves organically.
Infusions
Parts of plants, usually leaves, become a tea by extracting the flavor and properties through infusion and stewing.
Products other than those made from parts of the Camelia Sinensis plant are not actually tea but brews. You might know infusions as herbal tea.
At the Old Tea Shop, you will find about 20 organic varieties of infusions like Chamomile, Eucalyptus, Yerba Mate, Hibiscus, and more.
Black tea
What is known as black tea in the West is often referred to as red tea in the East. This is because of the copper-reddish color of the brewed tea.
Black tea is made by breaking or rolling the leaves to start oxidation, which darkens them to a nearly black color. When steeped, the tea takes on a distinctive warm, red hue with a rich, robust flavor.
You will find a selection of black tea from many countries worldwide like Assam Chardwar, Korakundah, Sergejeff Javanese, Rwanda OP1, Tinto Colombia, and many more.
Green tea
While the best green tea qualities grow in China and Japan, the Old Tea Shop gives you the opportunity to taste them right there.
A short list should mention Kukicha and Hojicha Wazuka from Japan. Chinese Bancha, Wu Yuan, and Tuyet San from Vietnam are some of the other varieties you could find.
White tea
The process of getting white tea relies on young tea leaves or unopened buds.
After picking, the leaves undergo light, natural oxidation. The young leaves do not go through roasting or steaming like green tea. The tea’s mild, slightly sweet flavor comes from the glucose in the tea buds.
Pai Mu Tan, Shangri La, and the Vietnamese Mao Feng are only a few of the names you will find in the Old Tea Shop.
Special Tea At The Old Tea Shop
Yellow tea
Yellow or golden tea is a rare special tea produced in Hunan and Anhui in small quantities. The brewing process is initially similar to making green tea, but with steps to remove certain unwanted flavors such as tannins.
Oolong tea
Oolong tea is sometimes called blue tea in the East.
Tea leaves partially oxidize before drying. Oolong can be greenish-yellowish or even dark drink depending on the degree of oxidation. The taste expresses a multi-layered, floral, and fruity aromas without artificial spices.
Tie Guan Yin, Shui Xian, and Halimu are among the half-dozen Oolong tea you can taste and purchase.
Puerh tea
Puerh and other dark teas belong to an old Chinese tea group.
This tea group consists of well-preserved aged teas. The taste is earthy, and the color is brown and dark. The aroma is the result of the microbiological fermentation of the tea leaves, which improves and rounds out the taste of the tea.
You will find a half-dozen Puerh teas such as Power Chai, and Menghai.
